Light
Light
Apple of the worlds eye O ! Light
Omnipotent illuminator
Where from, does thou sprout ?
Immanent thou art, yet I presume
It's from the teeming rays
Of the fleckless, fine fumes
Of the sea of joyfulness
Hidden in the waking eye of a babe
Shed to illumine the pallid face
Of its mother in bed, with labour pain
That thou hast captured this unique sheen
And now warms the world with rays serene.
O ! a drop of you, in the horrid darkness
While it shrouded the entire universe,
My darling ! like heaven you rose
In the shape of Dawn, a blissful boon.
Taking wings from the horizon
First you came and gave the Moon her milk;
The silver anklet to the Lightning shots;
And the gleaming smiles to the ocean waves.
Came you then to the human world
And smeared on the sleeping hoards,
Your ambrosia the elixir
To enliven their souls to wakefulness.
Now you linger O ! heavenly Light !
Eternal ! in the wailing human hearts
In their blind pursuits after paltry pelf
To lead them to a knowledge of the self.
